DayPage was built with your privacy at its core. Your journal is yours: your entries, moods and notes are stored on your device, and nothing in DayPage is used for advertising or tracking.
Three things can leave your device, each explained below: the texts our AI provider writes for you (you can turn them off in Settings), the optional iCloud backup to your own account, and what you choose to share in the optional Duo Mode.
Data Stored Locally
DayPage stores the following information on your device using Apple's secure storage:
Journal Entries: Morning check-ins, evening reflections, journeys and weekly reviews
Photos: Pictures you keep with a day (they never leave your device)
Voice: Spoken entries are turned into text on your device; no recording is kept or sent
Quick Notes: Short notes you capture throughout the day
Mood Data: Your mood tracking selections and history, including moods logged from the widget
Streaks: Your journaling streak counts and dates
Custom Prompts: Personalized prompts you create
App Settings: Your preferences for themes, appearance, language, notifications, the Face ID lock and widgets
iCloud Sync (Optional)
DayPage offers optional iCloud synchronization to keep your journal entries synced across your Apple devices. When enabled:
Your entries are stored in your own private iCloud account
Apple encrypts them in transit and on its servers (this is standard iCloud protection, not end-to-end encryption)
We never have access to your iCloud data
You can enable or disable cloud sync at any time in Settings
iCloud Sync is off unless you turn it on. You can use DayPage with all data stored only on your device.
AI Reflections and Monthly Letter
For Premium subscribers, DayPage can write three things for you with the help of an AI provider, Google (Gemini). Every request goes through our own server, which forwards it and keeps no copy (it records only whether a request succeeded). These texts are on by default, and you can turn them off in Settings (“AI reflections and monthly letter”): when they are off, nothing is sent.
A reflection after each entry: when you complete an entry, its questions and your answers, its mood and its type (morning, evening, journey) are sent to write a short reflection.
A monthly letter: once a month, each week's main mood and number of entries, your total entries and words, the ten words you used most that month, and your streaks.
A monthly story in Insights: counts only (how many entries of each mood, totals, your streak and completion rate); no words.
Your name, email address, Apple ID and device identifiers are never sent. Photos and voice are never sent.
Google processes these requests under its terms for the paid Gemini API: it does not use them to improve its products, and it logs them for a limited period only to detect abuse and to meet legal requirements.
These texts are a Premium feature. People on the free plan never have anything sent.
Duo Mode (Optional)
DayPage includes an optional Duo Mode that lets you journal alongside someone you trust. Your journal entries are never shared. When you connect with a partner:
Only what you choose to send is shared: notes you share, encouragements, shared goals, and the invitation itself
These are stored on Apple's servers in DayPage's iCloud (CloudKit) database for Duo, not in your private iCloud, so that your partner's device can receive them
You can stop sharing a note at any time, which removes it from that database; disconnecting from Duo Mode removes the encouragements you sent and received (notes and goals you shared stay until you stop sharing them)
Remote notifications tell your partner when you send them an encouragement
Duo Mode is entirely opt-in: nothing is shared until you connect with a partner and choose what to send.
Notifications
DayPage uses notifications for:
Morning and evening journaling reminders (local, optional)
Streak milestone celebrations (local)
Encouragements from your Duo partner (remote, only when Duo Mode is active)
You can customize or disable all notifications in Settings or in your device's notification preferences.
Information We Do NOT Collect
DayPage does not collect, access, or transmit:
Your location data
Your contacts or address book
Your browsing history
Device identifiers for tracking purposes
Any data to third-party analytics or advertising services
Personal identifiers to any third-party service providers
In-App Purchases
DayPage offers optional premium features via in-app purchases. These transactions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not have access to your payment information, credit card details, or Apple ID.
Your Data, Your Control
You have full control over your data:
AI texts: Turn reflections and the monthly letter on or off at any time
Cloud Sync Toggle: Enable or disable iCloud sync at any time
Face ID Lock: Lock your journal with Face ID or your passcode
Duo Mode: Choose exactly what you share with your partner
PDF Export: Export your entries as PDF files, made on your device
Notifications: Customize which notifications you receive
Delete: Remove individual entries or all data at any time
Full Removal: Uninstalling the app removes all locally stored data
Your Rights (EU and UK)
Who is responsible: the developer of DayPage, whom you can reach through the Contact page.
Why your data is used: only to provide the features you use. The AI texts can be turned off at any time in Settings.
Where it goes: requests for the AI texts are processed by Google, including in the United States, under Google's terms. iCloud and Duo data are kept by Apple.
How long it is kept: our server keeps nothing; Google keeps requests only for the limited period described above; Duo items stay until you stop sharing them or ask us to delete them; everything on your device stays until you delete it.
Your rights: you can ask to see, correct or delete your data, and to object to its use. Because your journal stays on your device or in your own iCloud, you control it directly; for anything shared through Duo, write to us through the Contact page. You can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children's Privacy
DayPage is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and we have no account system that could identify any user.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
